You’ve been good to me, 2017. I took trips to Scotland, New York, Aspen, Detroit, Austin, Florida, Seattle, Maine, San Francisco, and Northern Michigan. I went to a week long photography retreat, I walked in a Women’s March, and I lived through my first Chicago summer. My work was featured in Junebug, Stonefox Bride, People and Domino Mag, and I photographed 31 beautiful weddings all across the country. I learned to take a breath when I was feeling overwhelmed and to push myself when I felt the fire and motivation from within me. Most of all, I got to connect with a lot of amazing souls and give them photographs that will be a part of their lives until the end of time.

In 2014 I decided to try out the photography thing full time. Come 2015 I had four weddings and an ounce of confidence that this might all work. 2016 was a year of growth, experimentation, and a whole lot of learning. Fast forward to 2017 and 64 weddings later I have a job that is not only self sustaining, but a career that is both rewarding and humbling. It’s crazy to see where life takes you in 3 short years, and I’m so grateful it’s led me on this path. People ask me all the time if I enjoy shooting weddings. My answer is simple: I get to be apart of the happiest days in peoples lives and have an intimate look into relationships, family and genuine true love. So yeah, I love my job fully and entirely.

2018, may you be as good to me creatively and professionally as 2017. As for goals or things I want to accomplish? Well, maybe throw in a boyfriend and a few extra international trips. JUST SAYIN.  But in all seriousness, I want to focus my energy on creating more personal work, maybe having a show here in Chicago, get into handstand without using a wall, mentor up and coming photographers, take at least one community service trip somewhere, use film again, go vegan, limit my phone time, find ways to lower my carbon footprint, read for pleasure, be a good Auntie to my new nephew, and continue to live modestly and simply.

Below, I’ve put together some highlights from 2017. I had way too many favorites to choose from, but I landed on these because each one brings me back to a special moment or feeling I had when I was taking them. (If I took your picture and you aren’t in here, I love you just the same!)

I hope you enjoy this little peek at my 2017. And Happy New Year!

…if you made it all this way, thank you. I appreciate you.

THE END XX
